REVOLUTIONIZING EDUCATION- A JOURNEY OF PERSONLIZED LEARNING TO EMPOWERMENT

REVOLUTIONIZING EDUCATION- A JOURNEY OF PERSONLIZED LEARNING TO EMPOWERMENT

My Sister's brother is studying in CBSE 9th Standard. For Math's alone I used to teach him whenever my time permits. I used to ask my sister to join him in any of the tuition centers because I was not able to guide him continuously due to my hectic work schedule. My sister arranged him to send to a tuition Centre. After few days itself, he will complain " Amma they are not teaching well, if I ask more than 2 questions they hesitate to explain, it was waste of money, better I learn from aunt itself". Again, the hitter will go back to the pavilion where I must teach him Math's Subject. The Problem here is not because of the tuition centers or tuition teachers. The problem is my sister's son is expecting individual attention for himself alone to learn the subject. Is it possible for a tuition teacher to concentrate him alone for a period of 1-2 hours where there will be approx. 20 students?

So, I was searching for some online educational videos, so that he can learn from those videos and self-educate himself. There I found excellent educational videos available where the students can make use of them. You will be shocked that the founder of all those videos made it, to teach his cousin. It will also surprise you if I say that you can watch all the videos free of cost. Now a days the cost of education even in digital mode is way too costlier than education at school.

Let us introduce you all to a free educational video led by the "Khan Academy". Who is this "Khan Academy"? What are they doing? What is so special about them?

Sal Khan is the founder and CEO of Khan Academy, a non-profit organization that provides free world class education to anyone, anywhere. Khan Academy partners with more than 280 school districts globally, has over 145 million registered users across 190 countries. It is offered in over 51 languages. Khan has been named as the teacher of the year and recognized as one of the 100 most influential people by TIME.

The motto of Khan Academy is "Personalizing Every Students Education". As already said above, my sister's son wants that kind of personalized education. If you go back to 2300 years ago, few people got an education. Say Alexander the Great got a great teacher like Aristotle and for Aristotle his mentor Socrates.

I introduced Khan Academy videos for my sister's son. The interesting thing about Khan Academy is, it teaches the lessons, and it also has exercises which can be done online itself. If we do not know the answers for the exercises, it will give a hint to solve the problem. If we do the exercises wrongly it will correct you. So, the platform offers a diverse range of educational videos and interactive exercises, transforming learning into an engaging experience. Thereby you can get perfect understanding and get perfect scores in the subject .

More interestingly, there was an interesting story about a girl named Sultana who does not have any basic education and watched Khan Academy videos and wrote SAT exam with great scores. This girl lived in Afghanistan. About 12 years ago, Taliban has taken over her town and girls were denied education to school. She got into Khan Academy; self-educated herself through the videos of Khan Academy. She lied to her parents of going to Pakistan to take the SAT because it was not offered in Afghanistan. So, Khan Academy tried to get her Visa. On June 4, 2016, Nicholas Kristof of New York Times found out about her and authored an article titled "Meet Sultana, the Taliban's worst fear". She had no transcripts, no grades, all she had was 8 years of self-education from Khan Academy and an excellent SAT score. Arizona State University admitted her into their university though she did not have formal education. Sultana now is a member of a Research Faculty at TUFTS in "Quantum Computing". Did this sound amazing!   Her journey from Afghanistan to Quantum Computing Research Faculty at TUFTS University is a testament to the transformative power of personalized education.

The story of Khan Academy mirrors the timeless desire for personalized learning. The platform's commitment to providing free, accessible, and high-quality education has not only empowered individual learners but also highlighted the true potential of technology in education. In a world where educational barriers persist, Khan Academy stands as a beacon of hope, proving that dedication, innovation, and personalized learning can pave the way for success, regardless of circumstances.
